Job Objective Resume ObjectivesA job objective resume is an interesting spin on the traditional resume. It is not designed to replace the traditional job resume, but designed to provide a different type of information to a prospective employer. Often times, a job objective resume is required when the education and experience of the person is not what is needed for review, but rather when the career goals of the individual needs to be clearly defined so that the employer can determine whether or not the potential employer will be a long term or short term help. Of course, if the job and career objectives are not properly presented, then all chances of landing the job will be sunk. (And we are talking Titanic level sunk here!) Basically, a job objective resume should present one’s career objectives in a very precise manner. Far too often, people will list overly vague job objectives that truly do not convey any information. For example, “I would like to become upper management” is far to vague to tell anyone anything. If you feel the word “become” is not grammatically sound, that’s because it isn’t and that is another problem many job seekers make. “Become” sounds as if a magic wand will provide the promotion. How does this sound instead: “I would direct my career towards a decision making position in the Business Information Systems Division through building on a ladder of accomplishments” sounds way, way better. It is still generalized, but it is at least generalized within a parameter that defines what the employee is seeking. This is what a job objective resume should always be about. A decent job objective resume might seriously help someone break out of the generic pile of resumes that pile up on an employer’s desk. Invest some time in putting a good job objective resume together and results will follow.
